Frequently Asked Questions about Core Synchronism
Robert Stevens, BA, N.D., NTS Director of the New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutics
What is Core Synchronism?
Core Synchronism is a system of hand medicine designed to assist nature in establishing harmony with all parts of the organism.
How does is it work?
In the Core Synchronism model, the human organism is comprised of the mental/emotional, etheric and physical bodies and is animated by the core current.
The core current can be palpated on the crown of the head, and with practice everywhere in the organism. The current is responsible for the movement of cerebral spinal fluid out of the brain.
Pain is the result of a body part (mental/emotional, etheric, physical) being out of synch with the core current and cerebral spinal fluid. Disharmonious motion causes friction that produces inflammation, which then results in pain or discomfort.
By re-establishing synchronistic balance with the core current, cerebral spinal fluid and the dis-synchronistic body part —through palpation and focused intent — harmony is restored to the organism thus breaking the pain-discomfort cycle.
What conditions does Core Synchronism treat?
Core Synchronism is not pathology specific. It is a mechanical system designed to restore harmony to the organism. Establishing balance results in activating an individual’s self-healing ability.
Core Synchronism is deeply relaxing, safe, and gentle, hence there are no contraindications for treatment.
Things to know about receiving a Core Synchronism treatment:
During a core treatment the client lies comfortably on the table, and remains clothed.
Since Core Synchronism treatments are deeply relaxing, you may fall asleep, which in no way reduces the potential effectiveness of the treatment.
There are no particular belief systems required in order to benefit from the potential effectiveness of the treatment.
A person receiving treatment will feel the gentle touch of a practitioner's hands on various parts of the body including the head, feet, and areas related to the locations of pain and discomfort.
There are no contraindications for treatments, including acute and chronic illnesses.
As a result of improved mechanical balance and relaxation, acute healing may be expressed as agitation or other symptoms of discomfort. This is a positive direction that may ultimately result in improvement on all levels.
There is variation between practitioners but treatment sessions are typically 55 to 90 minutes. The individual’s response and the core therapist will determine how often a person receives treatments. It is not possible to predict how many treatments an individual will require to notice significant improvement. Core synchronism is a system that views inflammation and pain as mechanical dis-synchronistic phenomena. In some cases the pain cycle may break in a single session. In other cases solving the mechanical mystery of pain and discomfort may take much longer.
How does a practitioner of Core Synchronism view healing?
Core Synchronism practitioners are not necessarily healers. The person receiving treatment is responsible for his or her own healing, which is accomplished by the individual’s life energy, the core current.
Then what is the Core Synchronism practitioner responsible for?
Practitioners of Core Synchronism are mechanics. Their responsibility is to establish balanced body motions and synchronistic relationships, which will result in deep states of relaxation where healing ultimately takes place.
What is the history of Core Synchronism?
I began practicing bodywork in 1974. Core is built on the back of Dr. Stone’s Polarity Therapy and specific principles of Cranial Osteopathy. Through the years that it took to figure this system out I was also deeply influenced by the philosophy of classical homeopathy, philosophy of natural therapeutics and nature cure, Edward Bach’s flower system, my own mental/emotional journeys doing additional flower medicine provings, radionics, and the study of mysticism.
Polarity Therapy is a system of bodywork based on energetic principles and a specific model of the etheric body. Polarity is a five element based system of healing. There is very little emphasis on the physical in this system. Cranial Osteopathy is a physical system based on cerebral spinal fluid dynamics and how the physical body accommodates fluid dynamics. This is an entirely physical system. Cerebral spinal fluid is where these systems overlap. Dr. Stone as well as Dr. Sutherland (founder of Cranial Osteopathy) had amazing things to say regarding this dynamic fluid. After years of practicing and studying both systems separately I began seeing the possibility of a new model. Human beings are not just energetic or physical but both. We are made up of soul (core), causal body, astral body, etheric body and physical body. An effective system of hand medicine must address the needs of the whole. The model and practice of Core effectively addresses this whole.
The first core classes were taught in 1995 in Albuquerque, NM. The complete system now comprises six levels of instruction. Upon completion of the six levels certified core synchronism practitioner status is awarded. The total number of hours to complete all six levels of training is 124. To become proficient in the practice of core synchronism an individual must practice hundreds of hours outside of the classroom.
