What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are the highly concentrated volatile extracts of plants: herbs, grasses, shrubs and trees (including their respective parts such as seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots, flowers, fruit, etc.).

What Is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the inhalation and application of volatile essential oils from aromatic plants to restore or enhance health, beauty and well-being.  Conforming with the laws of nature, the principle of Aromatherapy is to strengthen the self-healing processes by preventative methods and indirect stimulation of the immune system.

What Makes Essential Oils Medicinal Grade?

The primary factors that determine the therapeutic value of an oil are its chemical constituents and the manner in which it is processed.  Chemical constituents are influenced by a vast number of variables including: the part(s) of the plant from which the oil is produced; soil condition; fertilizer (organic or chemical); geographical region; climate; altitude; harvest season and methods.  Processing techniques range from low pressure, low temperature, time-consuming procedures to high pressure, high temperature, speedy methods and include: steam distillation, cold pressing, enfleurage, solvent extraction, turbodistillation, hydrodiffusion, and carbon dioxide extraction.  The lower the temperature, pressure and speed - the greater the variety of constituents and the more medicinal the resulting essential oil.

What Benefits Do Medicinal Quality Essential Oils Provide?

  1. 1.Essential Oils are so small in molecular size that they can quickly penetrate the skin.

  2. 2.Essential Oils carry the regenerating, oxygenating, and immune defense properties of plants.

  3. 3.Essential Oils are powerful antioxidants.  Antioxidants prevent mutations, work as free radical scavengers, prevent fungus, and prevent cell oxidation.

  4. 4.Essential Oils are antibacterial, anticancerous, antifungal, anti-infectious, antimicrobial, antitumor, antiparasitic, antiviral, and antiseptic.  Essential Oils have been shown to destroy all tested bacteria and viruses, while simultaneously restoring balance to the body.

  5. 5.Essential Oils contain oxygen molecules which help to transport nutrients to starving human cells.

  6. 6.Essential Oils are lipid-soluble and are capable of penetrating cell walls, even if they have hardened because of an oxygen deficiency.  In fact, essential oils can effect every cell of the body within 20 minutes and then be metabolized like other nutrients.

  7. 7.Essential Oils containing sesquiterpenes have the ability to pass the blood-brain barrier, enabling them to be effective in the treatment of degenerative neurological diseases.

  8. 8.Essential Oils promote emotional, physical and spiritual healing.

  9. 9.Essential Oils have a bioelectrical frequency that is several times greater than the frequency of herbs, food, and even the human body.  Clinical research has shown that essential oils can quickly raise the frequency of the human body, restoring it to its normal, healthy level.

What Enables Medicinal Quality Essential Oils To Provide Such Incredible Benefits?

Essential Oils are chemically very heterogeneous - meaning they are very diverse in their effects and can perform several different functions.  Synthetic chemicals are completely opposite in that they have basically one action.  The heterogeneous benefits of an oil depend greatly on its chemical constituents - not only on the existence of specific constituents but also on the constituent amounts in proportion to the other constituents present in the same oil.  Some oils have anywhere from 200 to 800 different constituents.  Complex relationships that lead to amazing healing!

What Are Some Common Uses For Essential Oils?

  1. 1.Inhalation: Directly from the bottle - simply smell them; a diffuser will disperse the oil in a micro-fine mist into the air; fill a bowl or pot with hot water - add a few drops of oil to the water - cover your head and the water/oil with a towel in a tent-like fashion and breathe/inhale slow and deep.

  2. 2.Topical Applications: Quick absorbing areas are the feet, wrists, and behind the ears.  Along the rim of the ears and directly on the chakras are also recommended places.  It can be helpful to apply essential oils, just about anywhere you are experiencing pain, using common sense, eg: NOT on the eyelids or too close to the eyes, in the nose, etc.

  3. 3.Compresses

  4. 4.Baths

  5. 5.Dishwater, Clothes Washer and Dryer

  6. 6.Cooking

  7. 7.Cleaning and Disinfecting

  8. 8.Painting

Introduction:

Essential Oils have been used for thousands of years, all over the world.  They had been put aside in favor of modern, man-made concoctions, yet are thankfully returning to widespread use as humanity rediscovers their everyday, potent, and medicinal uses for wide ranging applications once again.  The essential oil of oregano, for example, is twenty-six times more powerful as an antiseptic than phenol, which is the active ingredient in many commercial cleansing materials.

Unlike chemical drugs, essential oils do not remain in the body.  They leave no toxins behind.  Essential oils are healthier air fresheners than commercial products, as they cleanse the air by altering the structure of the molecules creating the smells, rather than masking the unwanted smells.  When you are looking for alternatives to the toxic products so prevalent in our homes and in our lives, essential oils are a convenient, practical and pleasant solution.
